1999 has been a great year.
We welcome the participation of the artists and professionals at UCSB, Com17 TV, Radio KSPE, and our own Grupo LAMP to this year's program.
Our Summer TV Workshops trained several students in Video Production and led to broadcast productions of theater and Latin American music,
thanks to the instructors at Com17 TV. and the directorial efforts of musician Jose Luis Gomez and the dedicated students of Grupo LAMP.
Other video broadcasts and instructional workshops in "field shooting" and "post-production" are in the works.
Support from the California Arts Commission, Santa Barbara Foundation, and the Arts Fund Teen Mentorship Program enabled artists and students to create computer graphics. A sampling of their works by Adolfo, TK, Peter, JJ, Amanda, Sylvia, Norma, Damaso, Blanca, and Alfonso are on these pages.
Antonio Galaviz designed yet another float for the Sostice Parade which Diane Riffle and lot's of students helped build -- a Maya Pyramid modeled after Chichen-Itza,
and Jose Luis led an ensemble of elementary school musicians and dancers to create a pre-Columbian spectacle.
Norma's mom created the costumes.
TK, Peter, and JJ started their own web site dedicated to art. They now work for Santa Barbara Parks and Rec
and are building Skater's Paradise's website. JJ is working with John Teton learning to do stop animation video. Ricardo and Kathia are helping us develop the International Pages of Art and Culture which will debut one of these days on the web.
Damaso has a full-time gig as Art Director and Webmaster -- he publishes a magazine we launched at the beginning of the year
and repositions it for the web every 15 days.
He also maintains La Comunidad web site for the benefit of the local Spanish-speaking Internet community.
Jesse went to New York to work with a film producer. Alumnus Andrew Lyon received a scholarship to Cal Arts for the summer. Truck is still working his dream job at MetaCreations and is WebMaster to the Rock Stars!
Kia just took a job with a direct marketing firm ... he'll be merging their databases into the website he will manage.
In the coming year, we hope to conduct continuing classes at UCSB for benefit of high school youths, help build the MultiMedia Academy at Santa Barbara High, establish "La Comunidad Internet Broadcasting System", and continue our explorations with video and webvideo-streaming.
A special thanks to the Santa Barbara Foundation (and Irvine Foundation) for new support this year through their Artists-in-Residence Program. And to MetaCreations for taking us to SIGGRAPH.
Long-term sponsors include the California Arts Commission, SB County Education Office's Children's Creative Project, SB County Arts Commission, UCSB Art Studio and GTE, and the ESL Department of Santa Barbara High School. Please take a look at our "sponsors" page and pass along your comments to all of our supporting organizations.
Once in a while artists and students add something to the pages of this website. On this page are a few samples of student works.
And more new stuff is scattered around our Artist, Alumni, and Student Galleries .... There's more quality work to be posted, but I'm not going to do it. That's their job! -- Carl Demangate, Director
